Voice artist recitation is real and the SBX are making me —-

Week 2

Oh yeah –and just like that – the second day of the CVAP came. And yeah, my SBX compliance are still waiting and waiting and waiting —. 

Just like the first day session – I had so much fun listening to Tito Jac and CJ – they are good program hosts. 

For the second day and week 2 CVAP training – morning session, we learned how to practice effectively, to take care of our voice, how to have proper pronunciations and tips on creativity. Our trainer Dr. Onie Zamora Villamor (Doc Onie) led the discussion. She also asked some of us to join in the tongue twisters, which featured English and Tagalog words. Doc Onie’s recitation requirement made me want to hide – as I don’t want to be called ever. Like – other than my tongue perhaps my brain will be twisted too with the tongue twisters. 

I also learned from Doc Onie’s presentation that a voice artist never stops practicing – even if already known in the industry. As she said – mas maraming magaling sa ‘yo. Shucks – her reminder just creepingly sounds like the reminder of my former boss that in life – always be careful – because there is always someone “hotter” out there – Ok Doc Onie message delivered loud and clear. 

Doc Onie also shared that the world of voice acting is a saturated market – and it is difficult to get projects. Doc Onie suggested to keep auditioning – submit profiles and forget about it. She also suggested to do pro bono projects. I just realized too that voice acting and getting projects is difficult – but then life is difficult – so yeah – just fair. 

For the afternoon session, Papa Lem Ferolino delved into the technical aspect of voice development, variety, character creation and talent promotion. He also emphasized that as a voice artist – one must have an advocacy for arts and for purpose behind the voice and to use it for a positive change. He also shared the three main elements of voice acting which are pitch, volume and tempo. He also required us to deliver some lines –. Indeed, it was a to put theories into action.  He also shared the formula in creating character voices  – and that it needs mastery of pitch, pitch character, tempo, and rhythm. He further shared the elements in creating character voices. With all the discussions – Papa Lem also required us to deliver a line before the class. Difficult-difficult-difficult. 

Papa Lem also shared the tricks of the trade on how to establish brand and how to market  talent. On branding, Papa Lem recommended that we know our vision, niche, and even  develop brand signature. Most of all, he said that “pag wala kang project, gumawa ka ng project.” Got it!

And hey, I just learned that the voice over in the three o’clock habit is Mr. Peter Musngi (Mr. Musngi) and as corrected by Papa Lem, that he did the Tagalog version. Oh so cool. So as to who did the English version – I remain in awe of his delivery. But I will at least try to imitate his twang — particularly how he stated this line —  ‘now let us all get our prayer leaflets ready as we pray altogether the three o’clock prayer. Let us pray.”

So on my SBX – still ongoing.

    Oh, hehe the English Divine Mercy Chaplet was not voiced by sir Peter Musngi. Hehe. He only voiced the Tagalog version. The one I did during the live session and video intermission.
